106th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count

This was the lowest count in birds and species in the last 10 years. This was not surprising since it followed 2 hurricanes, Ivan and Katrina. As a result from Katrina vegetation was seriously damaged, our western most area was overwashed and Pelican Island was significantly rearranged. This coupled with temperatures in the mid forties, intermittent rain and wind from mild to gusty out of the NE severely limiting access by conspired to produce this record low count
